Latina in therapy

Because healing isn’t weakness—it’s resistance. And you’re allowed to choose it.

🧠 “¿Para qué necesitas terapia?”

You’ve probably heard it before.

From your tío, your mamá, maybe even your own thoughts:

“Terapia es para locos.”
“Eso se queda en la familia.”
“¿No confías en Dios?”

In many Latino families, therapy can still feel like something for “other people”—people who don’t know how to pray, push through, or stay silent.

But here’s the truth no one says out loud:

You can love your culture and still outgrow some of its coping mechanisms.

💔 Why We Learned to Keep It Inside

We come from ancestors who survived poverty, immigration, racism, and war.

They didn’t always have time to process feelings—they had to survive them.

So we learned:

  • To be strong, not soft

  • To be quiet, not vulnerable

  • To be grateful, not overwhelmed

And even now, many of us carry that unspoken code: Don’t talk about it. Just deal with it.

🗣️ But Things Are Changing

More and more Latinos—especially first-generation women—are starting to say:

“I want more than just surviving.”
“I’m tired of pretending I’m okay.”
“I want to break this cycle for the next generation.”

Therapy isn’t betrayal. It’s bravery.

It’s where we begin to heal what generations weren’t allowed to name.

🌿 Therapy Can Look Like This:

  • Speaking Spanglish without shame

  • Crying about your mom while loving her deeply

  • Admitting you’re tired of always being “the strong one”

  • Learning that guilt isn’t proof of love

  • Discovering that your story matters—even if no one else has ever asked

❤️ What I Want You to Know

You are not loca.

You are not weak.

You are not broken.

You are human. You are tired. You are allowed to need help.

And therapy? It’s just a place to lay down what’s too heavy to keep carrying alone.

💌 Ready to Talk?

I work with first-generation Latinas across Texas who are ready to untangle anxiety, guilt, and generational pressure in a space that honors both their culture and their healing.

Let’s talk. It’s okay if you’re not sure yet. You’ve already taken a powerful first step—just by being here.
