Because spiraling isn’t a personality trait—it’s a survival pattern you’re allowed to outgrow.
🧠 The Thought Loop That Never Shuts Off
You sent the message.
And then you wondered if it was too short.
Too long. Too needy. Too cold.
Did you use too many exclamation points?
Did they see it and choose not to answer?
Now it’s been 27 minutes and you’ve already rewritten the conversation three times in your head.
Sound familiar?
Welcome to the exhausting world of overthinking—a quiet, invisible storm that so many first-gen Latinas carry without realizing it’s a form of anxiety. A form that’s learned, practiced, and (thankfully) something you can heal.
🔍 Why Do I Overthink Everything?
If you grew up in a world where being careful meant staying safe—where you had to over-perform, over-apologize, or read the emotional room like a psychic—you probably developed overthinking as a way to stay ahead of pain.
Overthinking is just the brain’s way of trying to control the uncontrollable. It’s not your fault. But it is exhausting.
🧰 CBT Tip: Interrupt the Spiral
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you spot and shift the thoughts that send you spiraling. Try this quick 3-step practice the next time your brain won’t let go:
Catch the Thought
“They didn’t text back because I annoyed them.”
Challenge It
What are 3 other possibilities?
They’re at work.
They forgot.
They’re not great at texting.
Choose a New Focus
What can I do right now that helps me feel grounded?
Take a walk. Journal. Breathe. Pet your cat. Call someone safe.
🌿 Gentle Truth: You Are Not a Burden
Your mind may tell you that you’re too much. That people are upset with you. That every silence is your fault.
But anxiety lies. And healing starts when you learn to stop believing every anxious thought just because it feels true.
You are not needy. You are human. And you deserve peace—even in the silence between texts.
